Hull’s Best Pubs for Burgers & Beer From 12th April

Step 2 of the government’s roadmap out of COVID lockdown restrictions is just around the corner and this one might be one of the most exciting – the pubs are back!

From 12th April, hospitality venues will be allowed to serve people outdoors at Step 2 and there will be no need for customers to order a substantial meal with alcoholic drinks and no curfew, although customers must order, eat and drink while seated (‘table service’).

We’ve rounded up some of our favourite places to grab food and drink so you can get your table booked in nice and early.

Tribal Bar & Grill

Kingswood Retail Park, Gibraltar Rd, Hull, HU7 3DB

On a regular outing, Tribal Bar & Grill is a fully fledged sports bar experience – great beer, amazing food, massive screens. The joint venture between Hull FC & Hull KR is planning to reopen in line with Step 2 of the Government’s roadmap on April 12th; providing a fantastic place to eat and drink for the Kingswood area.

Tribal’s menu is pretty trim but includes a load of pub favourites – including some great burgers, a range of loaded fries, baguettes, salads, and starters. You can pick up a burger and a drink for £13 which is pretty nice! Those starters are 3 for £13 if you wanna share amongst the table…or just yourself (no judgement from me).

Over on the drinks menu there’s a wide range of draught beers. You can expect to find the usual subjects including Carling and Coors, but there’s also Blue Moon and Pravha which are especially great in the summertime. Also on the drinks menu is bottled cider, wines, spirits and cocktails. You can pick up two cocktails for a tenner which is a little too tempting.

Taphouse

70 Humber St, Hull, HU1 1TU

Taphouse is a wicked part-bar, part-brewery, located on Hull’s lovely Humber Street – you can often find me here at Humber Street Sesh, facedown after some 9% cider, but enough about me. The brewpub opened their doors in 2019 and often play host to live music, comedy nights and regular tasting sessions.

Being a brewpub you can expect to find an ever evolving drinks menu of a rotating selection of 40+ beers, ciders and ales. Bone Machine Brewing Company is the man-behind-the-curtain and they claim to be ‘the world’s first and only Finglish brewery’ – which basically means they make some fantastic beer!

Beer isn’t the only thing they take seriously over at Taphouse though, Thursday through Sunday sees Little Somboon Kitchen cooking up an award winning Pan Asian Street Food storm. Like the beer menu, the food menu is always changing, but most items on the menu you can find for under a tenner, and those over a tenner are absolutely worth it; from Spicy Teriyaki Belly Pork Skewers, to Lightly Battered Prawn Bao, to Thai Spicy Salt & Pepper Squid – you’re going to be in Pan Asian heaven.

The Potting Shed

Flemingate, Beverley HU17 0NU

Potters, the shed is reopening! And with it’s massive beer garden, it’s gonna be the place to be in Beverley this summer.

In terms of drinks, there’s an absolute shed load of cocktails including some favourites such as Espresso Martini, Zombie, and Pina Colada. They’ve also got a huge selection of craft beers and ales, wines, and spirits. For the designated driver there’s a couple of mocktails so they don’t feel too left out. Also expect to see a nice selection of Gin including Brockmans, Hendricks, and Whitley Rhubarb & Ginger – don’t mind if I do!

The Potting Shed hits all the classic pub grub on its menu including Freshly Battered Cod and Chips, Steak & Ale Pie, and Mixed Kebab. They’ve also got a huge selection of pizzas, sandwiches and burgers, as well as small plates, sides and puds. Most main dishes sit around a tenner and expect to see small plates and puddings for around £6-ish. All dishes at The Potting Shed are homegrown and made fresh on the day, using local ingredients.

Larkin’s Bar

48 Newland Ave, Hull, HU5 3AE

For over ten years, Larkin’s has been one of the city’s greatest watering holes – helped by it’s absolutely stunning beer garden.

Just like all the other bars on the list, Larkin’s is going to be an absolute staple over the summer. The bar boasts a wide range of select craft beers on offer from a multitude of different breweries. Meaning if looking to try something new, or just after that unique and exotic choice, Larkin’s has probably got something for you to try!

The food is stunning from Larkin’s. They produce some of the finest pub grub in the city and all for a sensible price. They haven’t got their menu on their website but expect to find classic pub food including Fish and Chips, a range of burgers, and perhaps one the best Sunday Lunches around.

Head of Steam

10 King St, Hull, HU1 2JJ

If you’ve been following any of our food blogs, you’ll know we absolutely love Head Of Steam. They’ve got some of the finest food in the city centre, alongside a mindboggling range of drinks, as well as having the beautiful Hull Minster in the backdrop – beautiful!

Burgers, Pizzas, and Kebabs are the game at Head Of Steam and they’ll cost you from between £9 to £13. If you’re vegan or vegetarian then you’re well catered for at Head Of Steam with just under half of the options being meat-free! There’s also some ‘turbo sides’, desserts and non-turbo sides to sink your teeth into so check them out as well.

As mentioned, Head Of Steam has a huge selection of craft, cask, world beers and ciders along with a premium range of spirits. Plus they’ve got a pretty decent cocktails menu which includes some favourites such as Margarita, Old Fashioned, and the classic Mojito – all for £6.95.
