People in Hull are being encouraged to take up free cycling lessons.

The Rusty Riders scheme is a training course for adults who want to brush up on their cycling skills.

The two-and-a-half-hour session is designed to refresh the skills of adults returning to cycling by preparing them to cycle safely on Hull’s roads.

As part of the training, cyclists are taken on the new pop-up cycle lanes in places including Freetown Way, Spring Bank and Ferensway.

The sessions take place from 9.30am – 12pm at the History Centre. The available dates include –

• 17/10/2020
• 24/10/2020
• 31/10/2020
• 07/11/2020
• 14/11/2020
• 21/11/2020

Councillor Daren Hale, portfolio holder for economic investment, regeneration and planning, said: “If you’ve been unsure about cycling or lacked confidence, then now is absolutely the best time to take up a refresher course.

“As we continue our ambition to become a cycling city, we want cyclists to feel safe when they use our roads. This is why we are installing segregated cycle lanes and increasing the road space for them.”

The training is delivered by First Step Sports, with qualified cycle instructors on hand to deliver this bespoke training.

Individual or group and company bookings can be made here or by calling 01482 218 753.

For further practice, people can also book slots at the Ennerdale cycle track.
