Spectacular Light Display Switched On in Hull City Centre

This shot was taken by OctoVision Media https://www.octovisionmedia.co.uk/

With no grand Switch-On event this year, it has been an eager wait for Hullensian’s to see what’s in store for this year’s Christmas light display in the town centre. Overnight, while most of us were inside watching the tele and having our tea, over 45,000 lights, a new 15ft tree, and our beloved 45ft Norway Spruce lit up the town centre, giving Hull a well-earned glow as we come out of national lockdown!

Our fantastic KWL teams have been working hard for the past six weeks, installing more than 220 separate display columns, decorating Ferensway, Carr Lane, Jameson Street, King Edward St, and Saville Street trees, as well as Lowgate, Alfred Gelder Street, Whitefriagate, and the Museum Quarter!

Hull New Theatre Gardens, Queen Victoria Square, and Hepworth Arcade also have their own festive displays, there’s even new additions to Hull’s Marina and Trinity Square this year as lampposts have been decorated for the occasion!

Have a sneak peek at Hull’s magical Christmas display here:

Councillor Dave Craker, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture said: “With the absence of a large event this year, we were really keen to ensure that as national lockdown is lifted and non-essential shops reopen, the city centre is looking it’s Christmas best. With the city currently in tier 3 of restrictions, the displays offer a wonderful, festive and most importantly safe outdoor space for our residents to enjoy.

“It is vital to remember that when you are out in the city centre, you continue to observe advice on staying a safe distance apart from those not in your household, wear masks anywhere it is required and observes the rule of six, which has been reintroduced in all areas as the national restriction ended and tiers returned.”
