Hull City Council has won an impressive award from the UK Housing Awards Ceremony in the Neighbourhood Transformation category. The award is for their Decarbonisation/Energy Efficiency Programme, a programme that produced an abundance of sustainable homes in the city.

The award acknowledges the council’s innovative approach to lowering fuel poverty and confronting climate change. Through the decarbonisation strategy, the council targeted some of the worst-performing properties in the city.

Co-ordinated by the Warm Homes Team, the council and funding partner Npower delivered integrated packages of energy efficiency measures, benefits and advice to residents. This collaboration has allowed social and private sector programmes to be successfully delivered as parallel schemes. As a result of these measures, residents held a collective saving of £6 million annually.

Hull City Council’s portfolio holder for housing, John Black stated: “We are delighted to have been recognised for this prestigious award.

“The council recognised the improvement of energy efficiency as crucial to address affordable warmth, fuel poverty and to support the decarbonisation agenda.

“This award proves that the measures put in place across the city are really resulting in a better quality of life, better quality housing, and more money into the local economy.”
