A programme of works to repair and restore historic cobbles in Hull’s Old Town is taking place.

The work will ensure that the surface is safe for people to walk on, especially for those with mobility issues.

The repair process reduces the gaps both in width and depth while retaining the historical look and feel of the cobbled streets.

Work to restore some of the cobbles has already taken place.

Councillor Daren Hale, deputy leader of Hull City Council, said: “We are aware that these areas are problematic for pedestrians, and especially those with mobility issues, and we feel that by doing this it will reduce these issues significantly.

“We currently have a programme of planned works for the old town area including the renewal of Yorkstone paving in areas along with other footway works to improve the overall look and feel of the area. This will include this process being used in all the cobbled streets to help the issues.”

Whilst these repairs are being completed and these materials sourced, there is some temporary tarmac patches in place as a temporary fix.

The works will finish in March 2021.
