But this Hull History Centre’s archives reopened to the public in accordance with Public Health England guidance.

Councillor Marjorie Brabazon, chair of Hull Culture and Leisure, said: “The History Centre archives are an important resource for many people in the city so I’m delighted that we will be able to reopen them this week.

“As always, we ask users to listen carefully to staff and guidance when visiting the History Centre and follow the important procedures that are in place.”

When accessing the History Centre, visitors are asked to maintain a responsible distance from each other and follow the one-way systems that will be clearly marked on the floor and through signage.

Councillor John Fareham, chairman of the History Centre Board, said: “Staff have worked tirelessly to create an environment that can welcome visitors back to the History Centre. This has been done alongside also ensuring that the centre has offered an online service during the pandemic.

“As chairman of the History Centre Board, I thank them for their efforts and look forward to seeing users return to the centre.”

From Saturday 8 August, visitors will be required to wear face masks in accordance with Government guidance.

Hand sanitiser points are also in use and all visitors are asked to sanitise on arrival.
