After more than a year in darkness Hull New Theatre has announced plans for its return with a sensational autumn season.

The first ever UK tour of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie steps into the spotlight from 29 November to 4 December, featuring West End star Layton Williams (Hairspray) and RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 6 winner Bianca Del Rio/Roy Haylock as Loco Chanelle/Hugo, both reprising their roles from the critically acclaimed London production.

Inspired by a true story, this funny, fabulous, feel good family musical is one of two ‘firsts’ at Hull New Theatre, as the venue proudly announced earlier this week that the first ever nationwide tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s smash hit musical School of Rock (7 – 18 September) will kick off in Hull, opening the venue’s awesome autumn season before heading off around the country.

Janice Wincott, Theatres and Halls Manager for Hull Culture and Leisure, said: “We are delighted to announce our new season after what has been a very challenging time during the pandemic.

“As ever, our programme is packed full of world-class productions, which has been boosted by a number of firsts for Hull New Theatre, including having the honour of being selected as the opening venue for the debut UK tour of School of Rock.

“This new season has something for everyone and we are very much looking forward to re-opening with an incredible series of events and welcoming our valued audiences back to the theatre.”

Making a welcome return are blockbusters Chicago (8 -13 November) and The Rocky Horror Show (22-27 November), while the long awaited appearance of Derren Brown (21-25 September) and Dirty Dancing (19-23 October) will now go ahead after waiting patiently in the wings during the Covid pandemic.

The new season also boasts some great family favourites like The Tiger Who Came To Tea (9 – 10 October), Northern Ballet: Merlin (12 – 16 October)  and of course the ever-popular pantomime which this year sees the welcome return of loveable rogue Neil Hurst in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (11 December 21 – 2 January 22).

With a packed programme ahead and some huge titles hitting the stage in 2022, including Waitress (31 January – 5 February), the return of the irresistible Jersey Boys (17 – 28 May, 2022), and the long awaited Les Miserables (15 June – 9 July, 2022); this autumn everyone will be talking about Hull New Theatre.
