Yes my fellow readers, we’re on the homestretch of Lockdown 2.0 and I for one cannot wait to safely get back out and pay a visit to some of my favourite Hull eateries.

We may have to wait a little longer though, as it’s likely to be announced on Thursday that our region will be in Tier 3 which means our that our favourite places to eat still won’t be open for dining in. Luckily, a lot of my favourites in Hull are still offering tasty takeout options to keep us fed and every week we’ve been sharing some of our favourites so you can get restaurant quality meals in the comfort of your own home.

Check out some new places or order from an old favourite; make sure to support local business where possible.

The Brain Jar

4-6 Trinity House Lane, HU1 2JA, Hull
Order online >

I personally met The Brain Jar during some foggy Friday evenings around Hull’s old town, but their excellence isn’t just behind their bar. The Brain Jar pride their theirselves on good cooking and relaxed dining. And now they’re bringing that experience to your home.

The Brain Jar’s takeaway menu is simple but effective. With a whole slate of Neapolitan style pizzas with Brain Jar’s long-proof dough, hand-stretched to order. They also have a handful of sides and delightful sandwiches. Plus who could resist some ‘magic sauces’?

What sets The Brain Jar apart from other takeaways this lockdown is their addition of their bottled cocktails. Now you can recreate my messy Friday nights in the safety of your own home. Have fun!

El Toro

A haven of Spain on the avenues, El Toro is serving up some fantastic food the way it is done in Spain. Yes, Mediterranean is on the menu including Tapas and a wonderful collection of traditional and contemporary Spanish dishes including paella and some great platos principales. There’s also the option to add sangria to your order which just sounds like a fantastic night in.

The Persian

Unit 1, Princes Court Princes Ave, HU5 3QA, Hull

The Persian is a traditional meze and grill restaurant situated on bustling Princes Avenue. Serving up Middle Eastern and Persian food, you can expect to see lots of fresh herbs as well as fruits such as pomegranate and forest berries. Their Meze menu looks especially exciting if you’d like a tapas style dinner. The Persian also has some great mains including kebabs, fish and prawn dishes, and a couple of veggie options.

Kuchnia Polish Restaurant

226 Beverley Road, HU5 1AH, Hull
Order by phone >

I visited Poland last year and I fell in love with their cuisine. Since then I’ve been on a hunt to find the perfect dumplings in Hull. Kuchnia was apparently the first Polish restaurant in Yorkshire and there menu was designed around value. This is the place for you if you want you try something a little bit different at affordable prices.
