It’s one of Hull City of Culture 2017’s biggest events. Headline acts heading to Hull from across the globe, including Kings of Leon, Katy Perry, and Biffy Clyro, just to name a few.
But if you weren’t one of the 50,000 people who managed to get tickets, then fear not, as there’s still plenty to do with some top events taking place in Hull & East Yorkshire that same weekend – some family friendly too! Check out our list to make sure you’re still ready for the Big Weekend…
Now in its 12th year and still going strong, this popular musical festival is back and is a direct alternative to the Big Weekend. The festival takes place across nine different venues around Cottingham and starts on the Friday evening. Most events are free but some have a small charge.
Beverley Early Music Festival 2017
If classical is more your thing, then there’s a whole range of workshops and concerts to go to that span across different venues in Beverley including the famous Minster. There’s even a carnival too! Here are 5 individual events taking place that weekend:

This popular kid friendly show is a real treat for the kids and it’s one of the best kids shows at Hull Truck. Tickets are friendly on the wallet too at just £3 per child and adults going free – makes sense to us!
A hugely popular fair returns to town on the Saturday. Unlike most fairs where it can cost the earth to give the kids what they want, this one lets you buy an unlimited wristband for just £6.99! Check it out!
Fruit’s very popular monthly comedy night falls on the Big Weekend so make Saturday a great night out with mates or the other half. No news yet on the line up, but you can be sure it’ll be 4 hilarious acts and for £8 advanced tickets it’s a bargain!
You might be missing out on Katy Perry but she aint got anything on these girls. 3 of the UK’s best female vocalists come to Hull and will performing anthems from the likes of Pink, Lita Ford, Suzi Q, Heart, Pat Benetar, Cher, Joan Jett, and Blondie!
A spot of Sunday shopping to relax and find that gem of an item. Enjoy glamour and glitz of bygone eras with stalls selling fashion, homeware, jewellery, vinyl and everything in-between. Plus a range classic cars, scooters and bikes and even a vintage tearoom!
