After an extensive refurbishment, Odeon on the Kingston retail park in Hull has reopened to the public. Our film reviewer, Adam, went along to the exclusive launch event on Thursday 6th December to see just how good our new Luxe cinema is.

The first thing that strikes you when you walk through the doors of the new Odeon Luxe is the feeling of space and luxury. Every surface feels and looks expensive, right down to the art-deco wood on the front of the service desks and the new ‘Oscar’s Bar’, selling a range of spirits, wines and bubbly.

A new menu has been added which includes chicken subs with dips, criss-cross fries and a brand-new Coca-Cola station where you can add flavoured syrups to your favourite fizzy drinks. There’s also a Costa coffee machine for those looking to stay awake as long as possible during their mammoth movie marathon.

Then there’s the screens themselves. Brand-new with the latest Dolby Atmos sound systems, Odeon now has the very best sound quality out of all the cinemas in Hull. The incredible 360 surround sound is some of the best I’ve heard, making you feel like you’re part of the excitement on screen.

Each screen has been completely refigured and the dated seats have been replaced with stunning leather recliners. For just over £7.50 a ticket, you can sit in supreme comfort in the best cinema seats you will ever sit in, bar none. A nice touch is the addition of airplane-style tables to store all your odds and ends while you’re enjoying the big screen experience.

The new iSense screens provide exceptional picture quality on a curved screen that really draws you in to the magic of the movies. While not providing the same immersive depth as Imax, they’re as close as you can get without travelling further afield.

General manager, David Hughes, told me that every surface is brand-new and the only things left from the old Odeon are the building shell itself, and you can tell. It’s something that needs to be seen to be believed.

As usual, the wonderful staff make visiting Odeon a highlight, but now they can work in a cinema that matches their fabulous customer service.

Make sure you take a visit to your new Odeon Luxe in Hull, especially with some great films still waiting to come out before the end of the year.

After all, there’s Aquaman, Mary Poppins Returns and Bumblebee all to look forward to.
