TV celebrity and former I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here contestant, Darren Day, will headline a sparkling line-up of six stars that will feature in this year’s Hull New Theatre pantomime.
Brendan Sheerin, Charlie Hardwick, Jonny Labey, Sid Sloane and Ricky K lead will join Darren in the cast of Peter Pan, the high-flying adventure.
The six will set sail up the Humber and dock in Kingston Square in December to star in the first pantomime to be performed at the venue following its £16m refurbishment.
The production promises to take the audience “soaring into the sky with breath-taking flying effects and deep into the ocean with an incredible 3D underwater sequence.”
Darren Day, has previously starred in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Grease, Summer Holiday and Godspell and numerous UK tours, will play the dastardly Captain Hook. Until then, Darren is currently starring as the Teen Angel in Grease across the UK.
Joining him in Peter Pan as Starkey is veteran travel expert Brendan Sheerin. Brendan became a household name through Channel 4’s runaway hit reality programme Coach Trip.
Best-known for her role as Val Pollard, Charlie Hardwick was a regular on ITV1’s soap Emmerdale from 2004 until 2015. In that time, she proved a hit with soap fans and critics alike and was nominated six times for Best Comedy Performance at the British Soap Awards, an accolade she won in 2006. Charlie will play the Magical Mermaid, guiding the high-flying hero Peter Pan, the Darling family and the Lost Boys from the evil clutches of the dastardly Captain Hook.
EastEnders star Jonny Labey rose to fame playing the infamous Paul Coker in the popular BBC soap for more than 100 episodes, in addition to roles in the film Soft Lad and starring in the popular ITV talent competition Dance, Dance, Dance where he wowed the nation with his impressive dance routines. Jonny will play the high-flying hero, Peter Pan.
Having starred on television screens for 13 years on CBeebies, presenter Sid Sloane has subsequently toured the UK with his one-man production Sid’s Show where young fans had the opportunity to meet their favourite star. Sid will be playing Big Chief Sitting Sid, the chief of Neverland.
Completing the line-up is Britain’s Got Talent star Ricky K as Smee. In 2014 Ricky auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent, wowing the judges and audiences with his self-penned routine The Fairy Tale of Love, which received a huge global response. From 75,000 applicants, Ricky got through to the live finals which were seen by more than five million viewers.
Ricky regularly tours internationally with his unique blend of physical, observational and zany comedy, travelling the globe and entertaining millions.
Peter Pan will be staged by Qdos Entertainment, the world’s biggest pantomime producer and the same team behind the Hull New Theatre panto since 2005. It’s now set to be the biggest pantomime to play Hull New Theatre in recent history, with spectacular high-flying effects, an unmissable underwater 3D sequence which will take the audience on an adventure deep into the ocean and all of the ingredients of a traditional family pantomime.
And in a twist on the traditional story and to honour Hull UK City of Culture 2017, Peter Pan will no longer be set in London, with the Darling family instead hailing from Hull.
Peter Pan will be performed at Hull New Theatre from Thursday, December 7 to Sunday, December 31.
