What's it about?
It’s Pure West Promotion’s honour and privilege to present Canada ‘s own folk punk pioneer, Eugene Ripper.
After cutting his rock and roll teeth as a founding guitarist in first wave Canadian surf punkabilly rockers, Stark Naked & The Fleshtones, Ripper launched a solo career featuring his unique synthesis of punk, folk, roots and rock. From barbed fast’ n’ furious solo acoustic punk folk, rockabilly and rock n roll to imaginative storytelling, atmospherics and post modern lyrical noir ballads. It’s a cool ride.
The Halifax Herald limited said “Roots, Rock Rebel summons up visions of film noir and spaghetti westerns…”
This is Eugene ‘s first visit to our city of culture and will be a truly unforgettable night.
“Eugene Ripper has firmly cemented a place for himself at the forefront of Canada’s indie underground since kicking off his long-running career in the thick of ’80s punk, an influence that has remained evident in Ripper’s more recent folk work” – Vue Weekly (Edmonton)
“His neo acoustic tales of near death, trains, outlaws, love gone bad, and freedom merge with an acute case of intense live energy. Ripper arrives somewhere between John Prine and The Ramones.” – Mariposa Folk Festival
