What's it about?
Kirk Ella Comedy Club is a new monthly stand up comedy night starting on Thursday 21st March in The Wheatsheaf pub in Kirk Ella.
Each month we will bring you four comedians including a top headliner from the comedy circuit, all introduced by a regular compere.
For our opening night we are delighted to bring you the outstanding Paul Silky White as our very first headline act. You might never have heard of him before but trust us, you will not want to miss this class act.
Paul ‘Silky’ White is a comedian and musician from Liverpool. Since 1994 he has avoided adulthood, wealth and financial security by doing something he loves instead.
TV Appearances Include The Stand-Up Show (BBC), The World Stands Up (Paramount) and the Comics Lounge (AUS).
International Appearances Include: China, Kuwait, Dubai, Bahrain, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, the Seychelles, Indonesia, Norway, Sweden, the USA, the Philippines, Kosovo, the Falkland Islands, Bahrain, Australia, and all over Europe, from Luxembourg and Germany to the Alps.
Festival Appearances Include Glastonbury, Bestival, Camp Bestival, The Big Chill, Green Man, God’s Kitchen Global Gathering, Kendal Calling, Comedy Festivals including Edinburgh Fringe, Glasgow, Leicester, Melbourne and the world’s smallest comedy festival in Frampton Mansell, which is a real place, and not a character in Downton Abbey. He’s been reported dead to the police, played in the house band at the Kilkenny Festival in Ireland, and been Dr Who’s backing guitarist.
Just some of the praise for Silky:
‘Massively engaging guitar-playing stand-up whose instinctive rapport with audiences makes him welcome wherever he goes.’ – Guardian Guide (Pick of the Week)
‘A very, very funny fella … just brilliant’ – John Bishop
‘Funny and clever’ – Tim Minchin
‘Silky makes rooms rock. More addictive than crack’ – Leeds Guide (please note Kirk Ella Comedy Club accepts no liability for addiction to Silky, crack or other addictive substances)
‘Always brilliant’ – Metro
‘Skilful and entertaining … Silky’s audience banter is sans pareil’ – Time Out
Plus support from a professional comedian opening the show and two up and coming acts in the middle section.
Our opening act for this first show is Peter Brush. A highly distinctive performer and deft writer of finely crafted jokes, Peter Brush unassumingly takes the stage with his slight bespectacled frame and scruffy hair, before consummately conquering it with an arsenal of razor sharp quirky one-liners and peerlessly original routines, all delivered in an amusingly awkward fashion.
Peter has been a finalist in a variety of local and national comedy competitions including the BBC New Comedy Award 2013, as well as winning the Harrogate Comedian of the Year 2012. He has also written for BBC Radio 4’s ‘The News Quiz’, ‘The Show What You Wrote’ and ‘Newsjack’, and has been tour support for Arthur Smith, Justin Moorhouse, Stephen K Amos, Ellie Taylor and Jamali Maddix.
Praise for Peter Brush:
‘Compellingly hilarious.. first-class gag writing… an original and achingly funny voice’ ****1/2 – Chortle
‘Unique observations and connections that stand-ups crave’ – The Guardian
‘Wonderfully original writing, delivered with a distinctive delivery’ – Ten Feet Tall Comedy
‘The most original voice in British stand-up since Johnny Vegas’ – Rob Riley, Promoter and Producer
Hosted by self-proclaimed local celebrity and sex symbol, the one and only Jed Salisbury.
Doors open 7:30pm, show starts 8:00pm
Tickets £8 in advance or £10 on the door (£7 What’s On Hub)

With Kirk Ella Comedy Club, the village’s only comedy venue, we aim to provide a unique comedy experience. This intimate club gets you up close and personal with the acts, many of whom are breaking through into TV, or are established acts from the UK and international comedy circuit. We are a welcoming venue and we have a dedicated room for the comedy, with regular breaks between the acts for you to lubricate your throats with laughter juice. With four acts and a compere it’s great value for money at less than £2 per comedian. We think it’s the most fun you can have with friends on a midweek night out.
