As part of Independent Venue Week, Anchored Scoundrels presents Matilda’s Scoundrels + Pat Butcher + Henrietta Lacks
MATILDA’S SCOUNDRELS hail from the south coast of England, a heady brew of folk driven aggro punk, they have been taking their sound to audiences across the country and to mainland Europe in the last couple of years. Playing festivals such as Boomtown, Rebellion, Beautiful Days and Mighty Sounds, they have built a reputation of rowdy shows with an air of fun and crowd participation.
A mix of traditional folk instruments and classic punk back line, blend with story telling lyrics, current affairs/important issues along with catchy choruses to make you drink, sing and dance. Known for their DIY attitude they have supported bands like the Levellers, Ferocious Dog and Street Dogs. Coming from do it yourself roots, they have had a string of releases and have just put out there debut album ‘As The Tide Turns’ on TNS Records. It’s no surprise that the momentum they have built is carrying them to bigger and better things.
PAT BUTCHER: When a band describes their own sound as “like the Mitchell brothers starting a riot in the Queen Vic” and posts photos of their fans simultaneously munching on carrots (mid-gig), it’s hard to imagine just what to expect. Hardcore punk, through to ska jams, all encapsulated in the spirit of some seriously good fun.
HENRIETTA LACKS are a raw, fast, emotional hardcore band formed by members of the Hull punk scene. A last chance saloon of DIY and positive ethics mixed with songs that deal with depression, feelings and politics. A group well known for their high-energy shows, Henrietta Lacks blend hardcore punk, doom, and frantic time-signatures, making them favourites amongst many in the local DIY scene.
