What's it about?
Matthew Engel talks about the evolution of a second distinct strand of English occurred as British colonists, settling in America, took our language and shaped it to their own ends.
Now these two versions are facing coalescence, as the American version progressively absorbs the British version in a process already in train for two hundred years.
Matthew’s career in newspapers included long stints at The Guardian (25 years) and the Financial Times (12 years). He is still managing to write occasionally, in a semi-retired way, for both these newspapers.
