UK governments drive for the first dose of the COVID 19 vaccine enters final stages with adults aged 25 to 29 being invited to book appoints to get the first dose.
The NHS have confirmed with yesterday’s press release that adults aged 25 to 29 will now be able to book vaccinations after when they are contacted by the national booking services.
Since the landmark moment on the 8th December 2020, in which 90 year old grandmother Maggie Keenan became one of the first to be vaccinated, the UK’s vaccination drive has seen over 57 and a half million vaccinations given out to more than 75 percent of the countries adult population, in what is being called “The biggest and most successful vaccination drive in history”.
The NHS are also encouraging adults of all ages to get their second dose as this will be the most effective way to protect against the virus.
NHS England chief executive, Sir Simon Stevens stated “Tomorrow is a watershed moment as the world-beating NHS vaccination programme enters the home straight of our race to offer everyone their first dose.
“The NHS vaccination programme is a real team effort and it is a testament to NHS teams across the country, that we are able to open up to people in their twenties just six months on from delivering that world first jab to Maggie Keenan.
“The tireless efforts of NHS staff to protect the people they care for and their communities has quite simply saved lives, and when you get the text, you’re next.
“Getting the lifesaving COVID-19 jab is the most important thing you can do, with NHS staff vaccinating at over 1,600 sites including vaccine buses, places of worship, sport stadiums and other convenient locations. So, when you get that text, book your appointment and join the millions who are already protected.”
When being invited, people will be able to book at one of 1600 vaccination centres, pharmacies or general practice sites across the country that are available through the booking service. The invite comes in the form of a text containing a website link for the NHS to reserve an appointment.
The NHS urges people who cannot reach the website to call on 119 instead to reserve a vaccination appointment.
Anyone aged 39 and under who are eligible for the vaccination and pregnant women are going to be offered the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine in accordance with updated JCVI guidelines.
