Adventures of a Yorkshire Shepherdess- Amanda Owen
Tuesday 23 March, 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM
Amanda Owen is the ‘Yorkshire Shepherdess’ who was introduced onto our screens with the hit Channel 5 show, ‘Our Yorkshire Farm’, which has three series and has had over two million viewers on each episode. Suffice to say, her family and farming life in North Yorkshire had provided wonderful entertainment for us.
In this show, hosted by Event Hub, Amanda Owen will be sharing funny and heart-warming stories about her life as a shepherdess, home renovator, mother to nine children, and best selling author. Accompanied by Amanda’s wonderful photography, you will be able to experience what her remote farm life is really like.

Online Book Club: The Moss House

If you have taken this time at home to start binge watching television, then you might have come across the BBC One show, Gentleman Jack. If you have, then you will want to the Hull Libraries’ online book club that will be discussing Clara Barley’s bestseller, which is also based on the lives of Anne Lister and Ann Walker. If you don’t have the book on hand, you will be able to borrow it from Hull Libraries’ Select & Collect service, or as an eBook or audiobook from their BorrowBox.

The Ghosts of York- Live Ghost Tales

We are very fortunate to live in an area full of history, but that can come with a dark side as York is the most haunted town in the world! If the horror movies on TV just aren’t enough for you, then you can join Online Natural Attractions to watch live, virtual Ghost Tales from the comfort of your own home.

NAPA & Wilberforce College Performing and Production Arts Showcase
Friday 26 March, 7 PM
If you’ve been missing theatre productions, then this showcase from the local performance arts schools, hosted by the Northern Academy of Performing Arts, should be perfect for you. The stimulus is the Lord of the Flies by William Golding and there are two performances. The first, The Conch is Counting, is an unveiling of reality TV and the mental journey through the world of social media. The second group will perform The Initiations, which is a futuristic retelling of the play “The Lord of the Lies”, that revolves around four candidates being chosen to fight for survival in the Initiation trials.
These performances do contain scenes of eating disorders (The Conch is Counting), and adult themes and violence (The Initiations).

Henry Matisse Online: Painting with Scissors
Saturday 27 March, 5 PM-6 PM
In this online art class, tutor Frances Stranfield will help to guide you as you mimic the playful and expressive approach to art that is typical of the artist Henri Matisse. London Drawing Group will be hosting this event so that it is accessible for all levels and ages. So, even if you’ve never picked up a paint brush, you can log in and have fun recreating Matisse’s art style with very few tools. All you need is scissors, paper (or anything you can cut easily), and a collection of organic materials such as leaves or flowers.
Tickets are available here, either for a live class or a recording, and you can pay as much as you’re able to.
Humber Mouth: Holly Pester

One wonderful thing about all this time at home is that we’ve all got more time to pick up that book we’ve been meaning to read. What’s more, the Hull Literature Festival is still going on, even if it’s through a screen. Hull Libraries have been continuing the World Poetry Day celebration going with a workshop from Holly Pester. Holly Pester is a London-based poet and senior lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Essex, whose poetry has been broadcasted on BBC Radio 4 and been shortlisted for the Forward Best Prize, Best Single Poem 2019.

Lou Sanders and Ed Gamble: Live From Their Living Room

This is the final event of the current series’ Your Place Comedy live streamed show, which is hosted by Tim FitzHigham: the award-winning comedian and author, who wrote and starred in Radio 4’s the Gambler. Your Place Comedy was put together by twelve independent theatres and art centres from Yorkshire and the Humber in order to bring you entertainment at a time when we too live in our living rooms.
This event is by the Ropewalk from Barton upon Humber, and stars two brilliant stand up comedians, and Taskmaster winners, Lou Sanders and Ed Gamble. Lou Sanders has appeared as a guest on an abundance of comedy shows, and also performed on The Late Late Show with James Corden in the USA, and Live at the Apollo. Ed Gamble is best known as a regular panellist on Mock the Week and many other television shows. He also co-hosts Radio X’s Sunday morning show with Matthew Crosby. (Contains adult themes and language. Age 18+)
