About Hull Maritime Museum

The Hull Maritime Museum is a museum in Kingston upon Hull, England, that explores the seafaring heritage of the city and its environs. The museum’s stated mission is “To preserve and make available the maritime history of Hull and east Yorkshire through artefacts and documents”.

Opened in 1871 as Hull’s Dock Offices, this Grade 2* listed building regularly saw ships sail past its windows in the town centre’s docks. Later, the building became the city’s Maritime Museum in 1975.

As part of Hull Maritime, a £30m project funded by Hull City Council and The National Lottery Fund, the museum will be transformed, revealing the quality of its original architecture and opening up more of the museum and its collections to the public.

There will be new and exciting exhibitions and displays using previously unseen material showcasing 800 years of maritime history.
