See Inside Hull’s New Polar Express Themed Grotto

Hull’s Princes Quay Shopping Centre continue their plans to go all out this Christmas. After installing a huge Santa and his reindeer flying-high in the middle of the centre, they’ve now installed an enchanting Polar Express themed ride called the PQ Express as this year’s Santa’s Grotto.

Take a look at our photos from tonight’s preview before it opens this Sunday (19th Nov). The Grotto is located away from it’s usual ground floor/harbour deck spot and is in this unit opposite Ernest Jones the Jewellers…

Once inside, the setting reflects a more Victorian Christmas theme with holly and lighting around the ceiling.

You’re also greeted at the ticket office where the kids can pick up their personalised golden ticket for the PQ Express.

Spot a certain Hull celebrity in the queue…

After you’re taken to your PQ Express carriage, a simulator begins with the carriages vibrating like a train and the “window” shows the journey to the North Pole.

Arriving at the North Pole, you’re immediately greeted by one of Santa’s Reindeer.

And then head inside to see Santa’s little helpers as the kids get to colour while they wait.

Remember, this is Santa and not Father Christmas so ours even had an American accent. Each child gets a few minutes with the big man himself. He sits them on his stool next to him, chats, offers a gift and even let her ring the bell.

There’s a choice of gifts to buy at the end with a photo of their time with Santa.

Princes Quay’s central display this year has gone wordwide with a recent photo of Rudolph. No signs of animal harm tonight though as the display looks great!

The lights switch on and the PQ Express grotto opens this Sunday at around 12 noon following the epic street parade for Santa’s Arrival. It’ll be open every day until Christmas Eve so plenty of time to go over the festive period.

It’s only £6 per child and you should definitely book online. It’s 50p booking fee on top, but it’s a long time to wait in the queue with small kids, so pre-book before you go at princesquay.com/grotto
