A guide to the incredible street food hall inside Hull Trinity Market

Street food is all the rage amongst foodies and it’s easy to see why: fantastic tasting food, wrapped up in a nice, easy to eat package, which makes for a quick lunch if you’re in a rush. Luckily for us in Hull, we have a whole hall, Trinity Market, which is packed with amazing street food vendors that are offering great tasting, and often unique, eating experiences; all whilst keeping the costs down.

There’s a whole world inside Trinity Market, offering tasty food from all over the globe. All of the kitchen’s inside Trinity Market are unique and offer fresh, professionally made, and bespoke products that are locally sourced and support the local economy.

Janey’s Food Shack

The Janey behind the Food Shack has been serving up fantastic food in Hull’s Trinity Market since 2001. But in 2019, she bought the Food Shack and put her name on it which is definitely well deserved.

This delicatessen is all about value-for-money; serving up quick, easy, and delicious lunches such as sandwiches, wraps, salads and jacket potatoes. There’s also fresh and local pies and pastries as well as a plethora of food on the counter to take your fancy.

This locally sourced store features fresh produce from all over East Yorkshire including their pork pies which come from a small butcher’s in Bridlington and their pasties that come from a local bakery in Tweendykes.

Cocoa Chocolatier and Bakehouse

Ever wanted to see a chocolatier make their produce from scratch right in front of you? Well since early 2015, Cocoa have been doing just that!

Cocoa has been a Trinity Market staple for over 5 years and has provided Hull with proper artisan produce made from scratch and with fantastic ingredients. Led by owner and chef, Jon, the Cocoa team bring out the best from ingredients and often offer some usual flavour combinations to make that lasting memory on your taste buds.

As well as their handmade chocolates, Cocoa create an ever changing selection of cakes and savoury options.

Chak & Sues

With over 60 years of experience, Chak & Sue’s, a family-run greengrocers situated inside Trinity Market, is the perfect place to come for fresh fruit and veg; selling everything from raspberries and blueberries to carrots and potatoes. Those seeking to purchase healthy, delicious produce whilst supporting a local business will love Chak & Sue’s.

Falafia

The Falafia, as the name suggests, serve up some freshly made Falafel and an array of other fast street food for the health-conscious individual.

Falafel comes in many forms at this stall, including wrapped, dripping with sauce, or in a delicious vegan stew or dahl.

This long-established Trinity Market gem has been a staple for those who want a quick and tasty, healthier option in the city centre. There’s tons of options so you won’t get tired after a couple visits.

Vittles & Company

Inside Trinity Market is Hull’s smallest brewery, Vittles & Company. They’re serving up a fantastic range of UK craft and international beers, wine, cider and gin.

Most of Vittles & Company’s stock is locally made in Yorkshire, with a lot of it being produced and bottled in Hull! Stocking beers from local brewers such as Bricknell, Atom and Bone Machine, the produce is always fresh and tasty.

The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and will be able to help you pair your drink with any of the food in the market.

Caffeinated

Need coffee? Caffeinated in Trinity Market is a highly-rated independent coffee shop in Hull’s Trinity Market that uses incredible beans from The Blending Room. Expect expertly crafted coffee, any way you like it. The barista’s are super friendly and knowledgeable, and will be able to tell you all about the beans you’re about to ingest.

They also sell brilliant sweet treats including cookies, flapjacks, Anzac biscuits, handmade croissants and banana bread, freshly baked, every morning. To top it off, Caffeinated cares about the environment and makes use of sustainable packaging and reusable ceramic cups.

Cheng & Chen

Cheng & Chen are a team favourite and that’s because they take fresh and delicious to another level. If you’re looking for some tasty, quick, oriental street food, head here. Inspired by the street food markets of Asia, Cheng & Chen serve up some of traditional favourites including Pad Thai, to King Prawn Singapore and Korean Fried Chicken.

They prepare their ingredients on site, as well as making their own sauces from scratch, meaning there’s less salt, sugar and MSG in your dish. Cheng & Chen cook dishes fresh to order, taking care on the technique and tradition of wok cooking.

Debbie’s Sweet Cabin

Championing delicious indulgence at it’s finest is Debbie’s Sweet Cabin, an old-fashioned, traditional establishment famed for their wealth of sweet treats, serving everything from pick ‘n’ mix and American candy to root and ginger beer; Debbie’s Sweet Cabin accommodates anyone and everyone with a sweet tooth! Debbie’s also provides a gift box service, the perfect present for anyone hankering for something sweet.

Trinity Delicatessen

This friendly lunchtime spot is a Trinity Market favourite due to their great-quality, fresh food that has fantastic value for money. If you’re in the mood for a quick, reliable lunch, Trinity Delicatessen is the place for you.

They’re serving up some lunchtime classics such as fresh sandwiches, jackets, and loaded salad trays, as well as some savoury treats such as sausage rolls, steak and kidney pies, pasties, quiches, porkpies, and shish-style chicken.

Expect freshness, especially with their breadcakes and pastries which come from a local Hull bakery. Got a sweet tooth? Well the Delicatessen has coconut slices, almond slices, caramel squares, triple chocolate squares, sweet pies and curd cheesecake to tame those cravings.

Looby Lou’s

Looby Lou’s is well-known in Trinity Market for taking traditional foods and flavours and giving them a modern twist. Opening in 2019, Looby Lou’s has gained a reputation for their indulgent Yorkshire pudding wraps, and gourmet, flame-grilled Scotch eggs, crispy baked potatoes, toasted flatbreads, and sweet treats.

They locally source their lean meat for their Yorkshire pudding wraps, and their Scotch eggs are such a hit that they will never be removed from the menu. Looby Lou’s have an ever evolving menu to keep things fresh and interesting, and everything is made to their own personal recipes. Expect fantastic, hearty food that will fill you up any lunch time.

Key Snacks

Key Snacks promises every one of it’s customers wholesome comfort in the extreme, serving up hearty breakfast sandwiches and refreshing cuppa’s, made using fresh tea leaves. The establishment’s owner, Janet, has over forty years experience, and this shows itself in the quality of her products. If you’re in need of hospitality, comfort, and delicious food, Key Snacks is perfect!

Alessandro’s Italian Bakery

Alessandro’s is an authentic Italian bakery. They source all of their ingredients from Italy and is all made on site by Italian chef, Alessandro. They offer a wide range of fantastic Italian savoury dishes including pizzas, calzones, and pasta starting at just £3. Other dishes include Bolognese arancini, paninis, chicken dishes, meatballs, fries, rice al forno and fritto misto .

You can also find fresh, authentic, mouth-watering Italian pastries and desserts such as cannoli, chocolate/pistachio filled sfogliatine, tiramisu, and a range of gelatos.

Tapasya Kitchen

You may recognise this name due to their fantastic restaurant on Hull’s beautiful marina, well Tapasya Kitchen is led by the same team and are serving up authentic contemporary Indian street food.

Traditional street food favourites are on the lunchtime menu, including Kathi Naan Rolls filled with roasted chicken tikka, Lamb Sheek, Paneer Tikka, Fish Amritsari, and Vegetable Biryani.

They’ve also got some classic curries such as Murgh Tikka Butter Masala, Lamb Rogan Josh, Channa Masala, and Tadka Dal.

There’s Gulab Jamun or Ice Cream for afters, as well as large range of drinks that includes Sweet and Salted Indian Lassis.

Cone Queen

Do you like pizza? Have you eaten pizza out of a cone? Well Cone Queen has got you covered this lunchtime. It’s made by taking a freshly baked pizza and rolling it up into a cone to make for a delicious, cheesy lunch, whilst keeping it easy to hold and eat.

This simple twist on the classic pizza has made Cone Queen into a Trinity Market staple, and a must visit for any Hull local. The innovation never stops at Cone Queen and it’s always worth a visit to see what crazy, delicious dishes they’re cooking up.

Boss Burrito

From the brains behind Hull’s popular indie takeaways, Dope Burger and Wagwan Chicken, comes this amazing Mexican food stall in Trinity Market.

The stall specialises in traditional Mexican flavours and serves up classics such as freshly filled burritos, quesadillas, tacos and loaded nachos with filling options of slow-cooked steak or pork, Mexican chicken, spicy bean, as well as cheese and vegan cheese.

You can pop into Trinity Market to try it or you can order online for collection or delivery.

Tart Me Up

Fresh pastry is on the menu at Tart Me Up, whether you’re in the mood for savoury or sweet, they’ll have something delicious for you any given lunchtime.

Tart Me Up’s menu is ever evolving but expect to see sweet flavours such as tarte au citron, pear and vanilla frangipane, and rhubarb and ginger crumble. They’re savoury flavours include gorgonzola and walnut, cherry tomato and basil, or red Leicester and pickle.

All produce is made fresh daily, including their sweet and savoury tarts, as well as their scones and hearty soups.

Greko

Greko could be considered Trinity Market’s main attraction, with huge demand from customers, especially around lunchtime. And it’s easy to see why, as Greko make some absolutely amazing, mouth-watering Greek gyros with classic flavours from the Mediterranean.

This taverna style stall fills their gyros with a choice of chicken, pork, and halloumi, as well as fries, salad, and Greek dressing. If a gyro isn’t enough or you want to share, you can get a gyro box which includes all the same ingredients which is packed to the brim.
