Tribfest Music Festival Gets Green Light for 2021

Following Monday night’s government announcement regarding the ending of lockdown, one of East Yorkshire’s most popular music festivals has announced plans to return.

The Tribfest music festival, which is organised every year by Ed Faulkner and his team, are now gearing up to hold the festival once again after the 2020 event was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Tribfest, which will take place on 19th – 22nd August, is one of the jewels in the crown of Yorkshire music events, bringing hundreds of top tribute acts to the region for each festival.

All social distancing measures are looking to be lifted by the government on 21st June. However, it’s still unclear masks will be needed, rapid tests, or even vaccine passports will be needed to enter a festival but putting on a large-scale event such as Tribfest is ‘what it’s all about’ says Ed Faulkner.

“The safety of our event goers is absolutely paramount and to be honest it’s what keeps me awake most nights” he explained.

“The Tribfest team are planning for all eventualities but with such a limited budget due to almost no new ticket sales over the past year it is really hard.

“We want people to come to Tribfest and feel as safe as they do every year so we will be following all government guidance and investing in whatever infrastructures we need to’.

Ed is confident that Tribfest will still be a fantastic event this summer and he does not want people to turn up and be let down.

“We are determined as a festival to better ourselves every year and 2021 is no exception.’ ‘We may be forced to make some small changes but we will do our upmost to keep the safe, family friendly and sociable feel that Tribfest encourages.’

A lot of festivals have publicly folded over the past year with many falling through the cracks of the government funding. Ed and the team have applied for lots of funding for the festival and so far haven’t had much success.

“Apart from a few small bits, we haven’t been eligible for much. We have made an application to Arts Council for the Culture Recovery fund but every single person in the events and entertainments industry has also gone for this so we just hope that as a smaller event we get our fair share.

“At the moment we are still relying on our fantastic customers who have been incredibly supportive and we have already started seeing an upturn in ticket sales which is exactly the kind of positive action we need!

“The summer sun has started shining and hopefully this is a sign of better things to come.’

Festivals are so important, not only for the feel-good factor of the masses but they contribute billions of pounds to the UK economy and there are millions of people who depend on festivals for their livelihood.

Studies have shown that for every £10 spent at a festival, £17 is spent in the local area, money that is vital for our cities, towns and villages to survive.

Ed Faulkner is well aware of this and explains that ‘the support we have received from the local people in Sledmere, Driffield and further afield is really encouraging’.

Tribfest is now nationally and internationally recognised as a leader in their field and bring people from all over the UK and Europe to work and enjoy the festival alike.

“We know how important our festival is to our customers and therefore we will do everything that we can to ensure a safe and enjoyable Tribfest 2021.”
