University of Hull to sell The Lawns and Ferens Hall sites in Cottingham

Former University of Hull student accommodation sites in Cottingham have been brought to market with the expectation to develop up to 116 homes.

The Lawns and Ferens Hall sites closed at the end of the 2018/19 academic year with the University of Hull focusing towards premium, high-quality, on-campus accommodation.

The university claims this was due to a ‘shift in student demand’ when only 20 students had expressed an interest in living in the Cottingham based accommodation.

The site which has been put up for sale by the University is allocated in the East Riding Local Plan for residential use and has a capacity for between 96 to 116 homes.

The Ferens Hall site makes up almost 10-acres and is being sold by Svaills. The site is earmarked to become housing, however no price has been given for the land. The adjacent Lawns Blocks, which have a Grade II listing with English Heritage, are to be put up for sale next month.

Director in Savill’s Leeds-based development team, Matthew Jones said: “The availability of Ferens Hall presents an exciting opportunity to develop a sympathetic and impressive new build residential scheme and is likely to be of interest to house builders and residential developers.

“The site itself is in a desirable, open and highly attractive parkland setting and represents a truly unique opportunity. Located in the popular village of Cottingham it benefits from being close to a well-regarded school and is in close proximity to Cottingham railway station and road links, we are anticipating a great deal of interest in this site.”
