12 Zoos & Farms You Can Visit In and Near Hull

Zoos are a fantastic place to see all kinds of animals that we’d normally never get the oppurtunity to. However, there are some incredible zoos full of species from all over the world, which are only no more than an hour’s drive away! If you’re looking for a great day out (especially with the warmer weather), then you and your family are going to love a trip to a nearby zoo or farm.

East Park Animal Education Centre

East Park, Holderness Road, Hull

As the only ‘zoo’ within Hull, the Animal Education Centre in East Park is a centre not only for the public to see a vast amount of animals but also a place full of infomation about the species and how to protect them. And all of this is for free!

During the Easter holidays, the park will be open to the public every day from 10.30 am to 3.45 pm, and they will have their last Paint and Take Easter Craft Session on Friday 22 April, 11 am to 2 pm. This session allows you to paint your own bird hanger or ceramic Easter egg!

For more info you can check out the website here. You no longer have to pre book your visit, although the aviary walkthrough is currently closed to protect the birds from bird flu. However, all other parts of the Animal Education Centre are open as usual.

East Hull Community Farm

Barham Road, Hull, HU9 4EE

This is the quintessential farm, with its seven acres of land is home to an assortment of animals, such as donkeys, cows, pigs, bunnies and guinea pigs. They also have sheep and, after their recent lambing season, they have got a few new additions! Based in East Hull, it is right in the middle of the Bilton Grange housing estate next to the Andrew Marvell College. It is the perfect place to take the kids for a classic farm experience!

Unfortunately, the farm is still closed. However, you are able to keep up to date with them on their Facebook page, and keep an eye out for when they announce their reopening date.

Honeysuckle Farm

Bewholme Lane, Hornsea, East Yorkshire, HU18 1BY

Honeysuckle Farm was first opened in 1992 and has been a great place for family days out and school trips ever since! They have all of the attractions of a farm, with their incredible animals as well as their straw bales, play areas, pond and fish feeding as well as a cafe! However, they no longer do horse cart rides.

Admission costs £6 for adults and £5.50 if you are a child, disabled or a carer, and toddlers go free. You can find out all about their opening times on their website and keep up with all of the farm animals on their Instagram page.

Sledmere House

Sledmere, Driffield, East Yorkshire, YO25 3XG

Sledmere House in Driffield is home to a ‘Rare Breed Conservation Farm Park and Approved Shire Horse Centre’, which has a vast range of rare farm animal breeds which they are dedicated to protecting. In recent months, their Leicester Longwood sheep have had some lambs, the Golden Guernsey goats have kids in the spring/summer and the Oxford Sandy and Black pigs, Pippa and Peppa, have litters of piglets twice a year. So, you can also count on there being something to see.

The Farm Park also has an adventure play area and some historic stables dating back to 1780. Of course, Sledmere House is so much more than its farm which you can find out all about on their website. Admission is £11 for adults and £7.57 for children, and you can pre-book online if you choose to but this isn’t necessary.

Sewerby Hall, Gardens & Zoo

Sewerby, Bridlington, YO15 1ED

Not only is Sewerby Hall a beautiful country estate with some picturesque gardens to explore, it is also home to its own Zoo. They have a fair share of familiar animals, such as llamas, micro pigs and pygmy goats, but some of their animals have come from all over the world; they have Capuchin monkeys, Humboldt penguins, Tawainese Sika deer and everybody’s favourite resident, the chatty Eclectus Parrot, Eckie!

Prices are £9.50 for an adult and £7.30 for children (under 2s go free) for a day pass, but you can also get an annual pass if you want to go a couple of times a year. All of this can be booked online, or in person.

Bridlington Animal Park

Covert Lane, Carnaby, Bridlington, YO15 3QF

Bridlington Animal Park is one of the biggest zoos in the area, with a huge range of animals available to the public all year round. This includes their newest additions, including ring tailed lemurs, Parma wallabies and an Alexanrine parrot. As well as animals, they also have a new playground area that kids will adore!

They currently offer three animal experiences: you can meet small carnivores for an hour, owls for 30 minutes or have 30 minutes with the meerkats. You can find out more about them on their website, and book them for an additional cost. At the moment, the park is also hosting photography workshops, where you can learn how to expertly photograph their birds of prey and owls. This is £60 per person.

Ticket prices are £7.95 for adults and £6.95 for children (3-15 years), which you pay for at the gate.

Elsham Hall, Gardens and Country Park

Brigg DN20 0QZ

Elsham Hall, Gardens and Country Park was set up as a country park in 1970 with the intention to take care of the wildlife. This has grown into a small collection of domestic and farm animals, with the rabbits recently relocated to their new home in the Secret Garden. They also have lots of geese, pheasants and British birds around the park.

Elsham Hall is open every day in the week from 11 am to 5 pm and 10 am to 5 pm on the weekends, all year round. Admission prices are £6.25 for adults and £5.25 for children. You can see what else they have to offer on their website.

Flamingo Land Zoo

Kirby Misperton, Malton, North Yorkshire, YO17 6UX

Yes, as well as a brilliant theme park, Flamingo Land also has an outstanding zoo and conservation park. They have so many animals from all around the world, including lions, tigers, hippos and camels. Recently, their critically endangered Black Rhino has given birth to a calf (who you can follow on their cam) which is a huge moment for animal conservation.

Tickets are available for around £29, as it admits you to the theme park as well as the zoo. You can book online. So, you can spend your day enjoying some thrilling rides as well as seeing all of the animals!

Murton Park

Yorkshire Museum of Farming, Murton, York, YO19 5UF

Murton Park is a unique Living Museum, with lots of historical reenactments and host to a wide group of events in its open-air musuem. In the next few weeks, they will have live history events that will reenact elements of medieval and World War 2 history. You can find out more on their website. As well as being the perfect place for history enthusiasts, it also has a selection of friendly farm animals that are kept on site.

Prices for adults are £14 and concessions are £12. You don’t need to pre-book and your admission gives you unlimited return visits for 12 months, so you can visit as much as you want for the rest of the year without paying more!

Filey Bird Garden & Animal Park

Scarborough Road, Filey, North Yorkshire, YO14 9PG

Filey Park is right next to Filey Dams Nature Reserve so it attracts a lot of wildlife. As well as that, it also has a great range of animals including racoons, meerkats and even corn snakes. They also have aviaries surrounding the Formal Gardens which are full of exotic birds. Another thing you can do is feed some of the friendly aninals, which is something the younger ones would love! Admission are £7.50 for adults, and £6.50 for children. This also gives you access to the rest of their facilities- the café, gift shop, gardens and picnic area. Dogs are also allowed in, as long as they’re on leashes.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Hurst Lane, Doncaster, DN9 3QY

Yorkshire Wildlife Park is a fantastic place to go for a day out. They have a huge range of 475 animals, with species ranging from hyenas and lions to rhinos and armadillos and multiple types of monkeys. Plus, they also offer shows and talks from the rangers as well as up-close animal experiences that will give you the feeling of walking in the wild! The Jungle Zoo, Cleethorpes

King’s Road, Cleethorpes, DN35 0AG

The Jungle Zoo in Cleethorpes is one of the newest interactive zoo attractions in the UK. They have animals from all over the world, like parrots, pythons, axolotls and sugar gliders. Not only will you be able to see these interesting animals, but The Jungle Zoo also places a lot of emphasis on education and its role in conserving animals. So, if you look on their website, you will be able to see a fact file for all the animals that are pictured!

Tickets are just £4.80 adults, £4 kids, and you pay for them at the gate. They are hoping to be open every day 10 am to 3.30 pm until September, so you will be able to enjoy a day out this summer!
